A New Years Celebration True to Ourselves

I have never been a real fan of big flashy New Years Eve celebrations; I have always preferred a quiet celebration with friends and family. It turns out my girls have similar tastes. I returned on New Years Eve around 4pm from my week of vacation with my sisters to a house with little food and even less energy on anyone’s part to cook, so I asked my girls where they wanted to go, and in ten minutes we were at Wendy’s. After catching me up on the week in Ceiba, and a couple frosties we headed back to the apartment. For the next couple hours, Nolvia and I obsessively read The Hunger Games, her in the Spanish copy we got for Christmas, and me on my new Kindle. Marina shared the couch with us as she read her new John Grisham novel. Nelly read the Hunger Games for a bit, and then after telling us how boring we were went to listen to music in her room. In truth, we were quite boring, but all so content with our books that we did not care.

Then at ten we headed to mass in the cathedral, and then headed over to Jorge’s, the youth group leader, house to bring in the new year with Nils, the boys, and a bunch of their friends from youth group. We yelled at midnight and danced until one in the morning. The next day, we ate a very yummy lunch courtesy of Nolvia; meanwhile Marina, Nolvia, and I continued our reading frenzy (Nolvia and I now reading #2 of the hunger games series!) Nelly took some naps, listened to her music, and even read for a bit with us. The next day was a federal holiday, and since all the girls had off work, we simply repeated our new years day reading frenzy, with me on lunch. It was a very calming two and a half days, and a beautiful way to ring in the New Year.
